Hello Claire, Amy, Noah, Sam, Jenna, & Amanda !
This is the section 6 Lit circle question for Black And White.

     My question is...                              Question 6

In  page 223-224 Tom and Steve Discuss the possibility of Steve not going out with a blonde, but in fact going out with a black girl. Do you think that Steve really does want to try to date other girls (Non-blonds) or do you think that Steve is just being himself being the ladies-man? Explain.

I think that there may be a side of both. I think that Steve may want to try now things, like black girls; but i think that Steve may be a little jealous of Tom. He saw that Denyse is a nice sweet girl and thinks that all black girls are like that. He would not know that no all of them aren't because he have never gone out with a non-blonde. On the other side Steve is a ladies man and he probably wants to show tom that he can go out with other girls. In my opinion I think that if a guy likes a girl it should not matter what race she is from, but if she has the qualities the guy likes.

I think that Steve is just trying to do the same things Thomas has done with Denyse. Steve said that Thomas has gone farther than him since he has kissed Denyse, and later we hear that Steve has learned the phrase “Darker the berry, sweeter the juice.” From this I made the assumption that Steve is just trying to date a black girl so he can test this “Theory” if you can call it that.

Steve is already a womanizer, he went out with Kim while he was dating Bridget so we already know that he isn’t that used to a serious relationship. So assuming that his history of dating only blonde haired blue eyed girls is true, than I doubt Steven will change just to date a black girl. He even assumed that since Denyse was black that she would know the black girls on her opposing team in basketball!

That is why I think that Steve is trying to date non-blondes and the girls of the opposite race, because he just wants to test a theory that his brother told him about kissing black girls.

@Sam. Great Work! I Can tell that you gave it alot of thought. I completely agree with everything you said, like how steve is a womanizer. Great job and keep up the good work!

@Walid- Thanks so much! I did put alot of effort into this question because I thought it was an interesting topic to touch upon. There were moments in the story where I thought "Wow Steven is very racist!" While Jenna thought the same thing. It was very weird to see how Steve acted around girls that weren't his usual type. He seemed alot more nervous and he didn't even talk to the black girls on the team. He had requested that Denyse do it since he thought it would be easier that way.

I can't wait to see what the others in our group will say! Perhaps their answers will differ and there will be alot more topics to touch upon.
